Right now, we have the rule that killed units don't earn XP from the fight in which they were killed. Past few weeks, I've been losing my cannons time and again (dozens of times) due to AI-units retreating through my line of defense. Sometimes in the last 30 seconds of the fight. In 1 fight I saw 4 (!) AI-units retreating at the same time straight into my cannons, miraculously recovering on time and .... bingo. While my units retreat off the map almost every time I let them retreat in a desperate attempt to at least send units to get to the enemy retreating units, to at least try and save (some of) my cannons.

Those 3 cannons each time take the (vast) majority of the kills and XP, which was lost each time. An average of 400-500 XP per cannon per battle in which it was lost. I'm really annoyed each time this happens and this has really gone on for too long already. Clearly, this is not something the human players can well respond to, except keeping at least 1 unit out of the battle and with the cannons, just in case...

I once proposed a ''disengage function'' : Same as retreat, but with instant recovery, so the unit becomes available again and can be sent after such retreating AI-units. If I understand and recall correctly, that was not really met by a positive response, so I'm not going to propose that again.

Only thing I can now think of, is to award XP for killed units. I'll still have the unsatisfactorily feeling and the repair costs, but at least the XP would be ''saved'' , which would be a major improvement.

P.S. : I'm aware of the fact that there has been talk about the rear men of a unit facing a different direction while the first line fights with the enemy. If I understand correctly, this should be the cause of the AI retreating through your units. I tried sending in my units towards the enemy, so all of the men would face the enemy, but it makes no difference with me.

Another solution to this would be to NOT let the enemy retreat through your lines! You know like real combatants run AWAY from the enemy. Not through them. This action really pisses me off too. I retreat wounded units to save their experience and then poof, one enemy unit of 3/4 strength retreats through my lines and takes out all my wounded units before my retreated unit recovers and kills them. VERY annoying. especially since it seems to happen most often only after I'm already assured the win.

I would prefer that, too !  Very Happy

However, if I recall (and remember) correctly, the devs have told us that it was not a simple thing they could just straighten out. So, maybe the simple thing of not letting XP go wasted like that is the best option left ?

Pyr before units lost exp when killed if your units were killed in battle they were gone. Literally gone you couldn't heal them afterwards.

Lol, Rand ! I'm sure I'm not ! But, then again : you have way more experience with cannies than I have ! Nowadays it happens less, but a few times per day, still irritating... I have a strong preference for undead nowadays Smile At least they don't flee and certainly not through my lines ! Only the mercs they bring with them remain a risk.
