Well I used a spider for 10 days, until the contract expired and the spider refused to spin any more webs for me, so I dismissed the spider.
From my experience with the special abilities of the spider ... it takes
quite a long time to get good at using its special abilities (web other units in place)
The first week, I was pretty disappointed in the spider; but the last few days, I was finally getting quite good at using the web ability to gain an advantage on the battlefield.
My point is, it take quite a while to learn, understand, experiment & use the special abilities ...
the special abilities though are quite useful after you get good with them So take this as encouragement, to keep it up with mercenaries to find their full benefits. Dragon Longbows took me 2 week to play properly; same with Royal Guard, & Elysian Chariots ... so its normal for new units to take a while to understand how to use.
[The reason I dismissed the spider, is I want to try out all 6 mercenaries; after which I'll decide which two I prefer to use]
