| Subject: Necromancy for the Undead? Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:47 am | |
| This is my first topic, so please point me in the direction of a page instructing me on any regulations or formalities I might have ignored like the nublet I am.
Additionally, this an idea for the undead, which may be interesting or may very well skyrocket them back into OPness. Tweak the idea or ignore as you wish.
A few patches ago, the undead were nerfed such that they would die if they tried to stand their ground while on low morale. This gave me the idea that perhaps morale would be a primary factor in their continued existence in this world. Thus I thought it would be interesting to have the same thing that determines their death also determine their revival. I also threw in endurance since the corpse would need a suitably strong body to survive the reanimation process.
The Idea: A racial ability for the undead called "Necromancy" that would allow for the undead refill their ranks during battle just as their other ability depletes their ranks.
Mechanics: When an undead unit scores a melee kill (not HP damage) against an opponent, there is first a morale check on the opponent for the soul of the deceased to be converted (lower is better). Then there is a morale check on the undead unit that scored the kill for the soul to be accepted (higher is better). Finally there is a check of the soul's endurance vs. the undead unit's endurance to reanimate as one of them (lower undead endurance & higher soul endurance is better). If only the morale checks pass, the undead unit receives a tiny morale boost. If all checks pass, the undead unit regains a point of HP. This ability does not work against opponents who are also undead or have the Bravery special ability. Since this ability is biased for melee units, undead LI, LIA, and HI would loose their extra 5 units to balance against the other unit types (although it still sounds pretty OP for the race in general).
How does it sound? Too complicated? Not complicated enough? Too awkward? So impossibly OP that for even fathoming the notion of possibly buffing the undead I should be die a thousand times by fire at the stake like the undead I am?
fire away...
tl;dr: undead can reanimate enemies.

It's not too bad an idea but maybe a little needlessly complex. Undead who aren't good at flanking and avoiding being flanked will be complaining that they die way too fast (since 5 less units) and undead who have mastered the mechanics may be OP.
Maybe, the undead special unit when special units come could be a necromancer. When the necromancer scores kills he revives the units he kills as his own (maybe even with similar stats to the unit he killed). He would be the only unit in the squad to begin with but as he revives more his squad also fills with new undead he has created. To beat him the enemy would have to focus their power on him and not try to take him 1v1 or ignore him, or else he can rise a large army. I do not play undead and am a lightie but this is an awesome idea! I hope all the special units have interesting and complex abilities to add more strategy to the game. Messing up and then having to fight an undead army risen from the corpses of my own, honestly sounds like a pretty sweet battle to me(even if I would rage at being an idiot)
