Yesterday, I noticed I was getting around 10% fewer CP for the same AP in the same type of battle on the same region. Today, I'm back to where I was previously plus around 3%. Can anyone explain why? Is it a bug or is it something to do with the bonuses that are being awarded to try to even things out (I play dark btw). If it's the latter, can anyone tell me how the bonus is being decided?

Did you achieve the same AP using a different number of units? Was it in the same game mode and (if apply) difficulty?

I think you figured it out - pop modifiers on CP earnings.
If the lightside v darkside active populations fluctuated or evened out, then darkside would notice exactly what you noticed.
