I recruited a spider swarm in new world as a merc , it appears in my barracks fine, but when trying to start battles using it, I get an error has occurred please report this issue message, and the battle fails to start

Found it. You can use Mercs only Normal + battle difficulties.
We will update the req on Monday, however for now go ahead and use it on Normal and higher battle difficulties.
