Would it be possible for the devs to create a research that increases the chances of better stats on an item or increased the stats in general when crafting an item?

Yea, research should be extended. New tree(s) (my wish) or extension from the existing ones.

A crafting related research tree (as well as a repair one) would definitely be a nice touch\addition
